Choose Spain region

Costas with its own identity

The coastline of Spain has long had a strong attraction for many millions of people. Holidaymakers from all corners of Europe flock every year to the Mediterranean costas, which stretch for more than a thousand kilometers. Tourists and home buyers come mainly because of the climate that has much to offer visitors in every season.

The difference in climate of the costas

But the different costas are not interchangeable. The coastal areas have in common an offer of sun, sea, beaches and good accessibility. Yet there are also considerable differences in culture, nature, landscape and facilities. Even in the climate, there are variations that can be significant enough to make one costa preferable to another.

When choosing a favorite region, it is important for everyone to have a good understanding of that diversity. Only in this way can the home buyer choose the best location that perfectly matches the wishes and needs.

Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is one of the most popular destinations in Spain. The area can be divided into two parts. The northern region (north from Alicante) is characterized by many winding roads, small bays and a hilly interior. In this part of the Costa Blanca there is a little more rain annually than in the south. That means that the north is a bit greener than the south.

The land is flatter to the south from Alicante. The hills are less high and can be found mainly inland. Miles of uninterrupted sandy beaches and a variety of beautiful golf courses make it a sought-after region. For both parts of the Costa Blanca, the level of facilities is high and a (holiday) home is easily accessible by plane. For more detailed information about the Costa Blanca look here.

Costa Cálida

This costa literally means the Wame Coast. This area starts south of Pilar de la Horadada and connects to the Costa Blanca. The coastal strip is 250 kilometers long and ends in Aguilas. The tourist industry and construction activities are mainly concentrated around the Mar Menor. With an area of 170 km², this inland sea is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe.

The different costas

The climate is comparable to that of the South Costa Blanca. As part of the province of Murcia, this region has a rich history, which can be found especially in the capital Murcia and the port city of Cartagena. This costa is less touristy and still has many typical Spanish villages. Especially in recent years, however, many (holiday) homes have been built.
