Walking along jagged sand rocks

Walking along jagged sand rocks - Van Dam Estates

Walking along the dry riverbed of the Rio Seco in Pinar de Campoverde (part of Pilar de la Horadada) offers sports enthusiasts some unexpected surprises. The most impressive are the meter-high sand walls. As a result of erosion by the water, erratic shapes have been 'sculpted', making it an unusual and enchanting natural phenomenon. Over the years, the layers of compressed sand have been transformed into a unique landscape. With luck, walkers will also be able to see birds such as the chiffchaff, kingfisher and heron. Foxes have also been observed occasionally.

Two well-marked routes can be followed in this area.

The short route of about four kilometers is the most popular as hikers return to the starting point. Moreover, on this tour you will experience the most impressive nature. The start is at restaurant meson Rio Seco near the Polideportivo. More seasoned hikers can follow the ten-kilometer route along the dry riverbed of the Rio Seco, which eventually ends at the mouth of the river in Mil Palmeras. Good walking shoes are recommended for both routes. It is not recommended to make the trips shortly after heavy rainfall.
