Greetings from the Sierra Nevada

Greetings from the Sierra Nevada - Van Dam Estates
1st February 2021 author: Jolanda van Dam

My first introduction to skiing in the Sierra Nevada put me on the wrong track. Being on the wrong foot is of course not recommended for skiers, but that's another story. Seriously. It was the end of February and the day before I had enjoyed a drink and a tapa on a sunny boulevard on the Costa Blanca. After a sloppy four-hour drive, I was now suddenly on the long slats near Granada. A crazy sensation. This is a beautiful ski resort with a huge choice of slopes and all the ski lifts and other facilities that you can expect in the more traditional ski areas in Europe. I looked around and saw the snowboarders and cross country skiers enjoying their winter sports, while I zoomed down carefree myself. I also noticed how quiet it was. No big crowds braving the slopes. But another skier told me that the weekends are different. Then the Spaniards from the big cities come en masse for their dose of winter sports.

Meanwhile, the broker in me has completely banned all thoughts of 'location, location, location'. At the end of a few hours of skiing it is time for 'decisions, decisions, decisions'. Namely: am I going for a nice apres ski or do I take the car to a sunny terrace on the costa? If only all choices were so much fun. Greetings, Jolanda.
