Our traditional New Year’s greeting looks a little different this year. This is, in fact, the second New Year’s wish in just one week. As owners of Van Dam Estates, we decided to do things differently and asked our mascot, Frieda Flamingo, to attend a festive Spanish New Year’s celebration. That request didn’t just come out of nowhere. Frieda felt it was about time to show the fun side of New Year’s Eve.
Sure, those blogs about eating 12 grapes (see here) and other peculiar Spanish traditions (see here) are nice, but it’s really about letting yourself go. That was more or less Frieda’s argument for changing things up. And as she added: “My nickname in flamingo land isn’t Frieda ‘Fun’ Flamingo for nothing.” Since no company wants to deal with a sulking mascot, we gave in to Frieda’s wish and let her ring in the new year in her own way.
That’s why, on behalf of all of us at Van Dam Estates (including Frieda), we once again wish everyone a Happy New Year with this festive photo of Frieda in an especially exuberant mood in Madrid.
