The complete walking route around the Salinas Regional Park in San Pedro del Pinatar is the most complete way to experience this nature reserve in all its facets. The 12-kilometer tour introduces hikers to salt works, many different water birds, dunes, beaches, old mills, mud baths, traditional fishing methods, a harbor, archaeological remains and an area to relax.

This 'total experience' is one of the five mapped out walking and cycling routes. Some routes are only a few kilometers long and therefore highlight some facets of the protected area. Various information points, a visitor center and lookouts along the way help to experience the biodiversity as fully as possible.

Hikers are advised to bring binoculars and a camera. Especially from the lookouts beautiful photos can be taken of flamingos, lapwings, cormorants, terns, grebes, ducks, kingfishers, woodpeckers and at least three different species of sea meows. The salt pans are of course more than a multi-colored area with interesting flora and fauna. With an annual production of between 75,000 and 100,000 tons of good quality salt, it is also an important source of income for San Pedro del Pinatar.

Although the park is home to plenty of life all year round, spring and fall are considered the most ideal seasons to visit. However, flamingo enthusiasts are best in July. Then the highest concentration of these waders can be admired.
